It’s hard to believe that we are already past Labor Day. The band has been very busy over the last few months, especially with the extremely successful band camp. The incoming freshmen worked really hard and are a very dedicated class.
This year’s theme is “Joan of Arc”, which includes exciting scenes of a battle and the coronation. The students are practicing every day to prepare for putting the entire show on the field very soon.
Barry Rogers states, “ All of the students have worked very diligently to get this year’s show off to a great start. We hope everyone enjoys our new performance.”
The band will be competing in Booneville, Mississippi, at Northeast Community College on October 6th. On October 13th our hometown fans will not only see Grenada perform, but many other area schools as we host the MHSAA Region II Marching Festival. The 20th of October the band will compete in a U.S. Bands event held at EMCC in Scooba, Mississippi. Other competition dates are still being considered, but have not been finalized at this time.
Our high school fundraiser has come and gone. Everything went very smoothly. We hope everyone had the opportunity to order and we want to thank all of our patrons for their continued support of our band program.
On the 11th of September, our sixth grade students will be receiving their instruments. They are very excited and anxiously awaiting their first performance.
Band night is scheduled for Monday, October 22, and all of our students are gearing up for that performance. Our seventh and eighth grade students are already working on their music for this show.
Our eighth grade students will attend an out of town football game in October and perform in the stands, giving them the opportunity to have an experience similar to high school band. This performance also coincides with the high school preparing for competition on the next day.
Marching competitions and performances demonstrate the hard work and dedication of the band students. We appreciate the support of the community in our fundraising efforts and the attendance at our performances.
