GHS Beauty Revue 2015

A bevy of beauties and beaus graced the stage of the Grenada High School Auditorium recently at the annual beauty review. Held on a Thursday evening, the event featured 26 contestants vying for the title of GHS Most Beautiful. Five Handsomes and GHS Most Handsome also made their debut at the affair.

Much planning goes into the yearly event that raises money to support the GHS Annual Staff. Plans actually start a few months prior to the event. Each year, the staff picks a decorative theme, then plans and creates decorations for the occasion. This can take several weeks as most of the decorations are created from scratch by staffers during class. Finally, once the décor is developed, the auditorium is actually decorated within only two or three days.

Different judges from outside the Grenada area are chosen each year (usually three or four) in order to ensure a level competition field for the beauties. Contacting and choosing judges can be time consuming and difficult due to the fact that many people interested in judging work regular jobs and/or have families that they must plan around. The staff provides food for the judges each year as a special thank you for their help in producing the pageant.

Several teachers, including Melinda Allen (Mistress of Ceremonies), Chantel Chandler, Ann Hart Hames, Amber Harrison, and Janie Logan, contribute their time on the evening of the event and at after-school practice to make sure the pageant comes off without a hitch. Also lending a hand this year were Ginny Jacks and Tiffany Honeycutt. The Annual Staff is grateful for the help of this dedicated group of teachers and friends.

Several local businesses also contribute to the pageant each year. The Annual Staff would like to thank Flowers on the Square for the beautiful flowers and boutonnieres for the contestants and Handsomes, Tassin Jewelers for the lovely crown, and Universal Awards and Trophies for the wonderful trophies. Your help and support is greatly appreciated! The GHS Handsomes, elected by the student body, are also presented at the pageant each year. This group of six male seniors provides escorts for the beauties modeling on stage as well as modeling individually during their part of the program.

Handsomes with awards
The Handsomes are good sports, as the biographical information read during their portion is created for the amusement of the audience by the Annual Staff members. If you have never heard any of these biographies or seen these boys strut their stuff during the pageant, you have missed a good laugh! They do a great job and provide comic relief for the audience as they anxiously await the results of the actual pageant. After the Handsomes are presented, the winner of the Most Handsome election, which has been kept secret until this point, is announced. Congratulations to Cooper Chavis, GHS Most Handsome 2016. The remaining top five finishers in the Handsome election included Sam Byars, Mark Caldwell, Josh Savage, Trey Spencer, and Dylan Teas. Congratulations on your election as a Handsome and thank you so much for your participation in the pageant.
