Grenada Band Awards

Grenada High School band students returned triumphantly last week from the MHSAA MBA (Mississippi Bandmasters Association) state concert and sight reading evaluation.  The Symphonic Winds participated in this contest and received all superior ratings from every judge in both concert and sight reading.  GHS Band on stage in concert

Due to their previous success during marching season, the Grenada Band Program was also awarded the Sweepstakes Award. This award is the highest echelon of recognition given to a band program on the state level.  To receive Sweepstakes recognition, band programs must receive superior ratings from every judge in all three disciplines of Marching, Concert, and Sight Reading.
After completion of the contest, the band program embarked upon their annual spring trip.  This year the band traveled to Dallas, Texas. While in Dallas, the band first visited the Stockyards of Fort Worth, where there were plenty of attractions, food, and a real life cattle drive!  While there, they also visited the Water Gardens.

After exploring those two Texas attractions, the band received a VIP tour of AT&T Stadium - the world's largest dome stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and the venue for this year's Country Music Awards.  Included on the tour were the Dallas Cowboys’ locker rooms, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders’ locker rooms, the world's largest jumbotron, and the press box.

Students then visited Dealy Plaza and the John F. Kennedy Museum.  They also toured the 6th floor of the building where Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated President Kennedy.  Students learned about Kennedy’s life, his time in the Senate, his presidency, death, and the memorials honoring him.  Winding up a jam-packed Friday, students visited the Galleria Mall in Dallas that features four floors of shopping and food.  This mall also houses a large ice rink where the students, some for the first time, experienced ice skating.

On Saturday, the band spent all day at Six Flags over Texas, the very first of the Six Flags theme parks. Congratulations to the students, directors, and supporters on a successful concert season.  A special thank you goes out to administration, boosters, and all sponsors of the Grenada band program.  Your support makes it possible for Grenada band students to travel to these events and accomplish their musical goals.
