Schools busy before holidays

      While the first semester of school may be winding down, school activities are in full swing.  Grenada Elementary School recently hosted the GES Reading Fair.  Grades K-1 individual projects were on November 8, 2nd grade individual projects were judged on November 9, and third grade projects plus all group and family projects were judged on November 10.  Grenada School District fourth, fifth, and sixth grade projects will be judged on November 15. 


                  First grade and kindergarten winners from the GES Reading Fair included:  Kindergarten, first place, Makena Kendall;  Luke Harden, first place first grade; Zion Williams, second place, first grade; Ethan Klinck, third place, first grade; and Lille Brown, fourth place, first grade.  Names of winners from grades two and three were unavailable at press time.   


                  The first place winner of each category division at the local level will advance to the district level.  First place district winners will advance to a Regional Reading Fair.  The first place regional winner from each division will move on to the State level of competition. 


                  Another group staying busy during the last few weeks of this semester is Vision’s Showchoir.  The group will take to the road again over the Thanksgiving holidays.  Visions, along with an entourage of chaperones, directors, and GSD supporters will depart November 19 by bus for Orlando.  The group will perform on November 20 at the Waterside Pavillion at Downtown Disney at 11:30.  The group plans to enjoy a day at Universal Studios and to spend Thanksgiving Day at Disney while in Orlando.  They will return to Grenada on November 25.  Visions members  embarking on the journey include:  Dani Denley, Karen Chan, Olivia Worthy, Tysheann Grant, Chace Holland, Jerry Clark, Austin Rideout, Michael Hankins, Smiley Arrington, Stuart Shaw, Mitchell Sones, Hannah Thomas, Mary Courtney Self, Mallory Carrithers, Shane Harbin, Austin Simmons, Mark Campbell, Beth Moore, Paige Porter, Sydney Taylor, Grace Worthy, Hannah Waters, Hayden Wooldridge, Mallory McWhorter, Sydney Reid, Sara Kate Griffin, Lauren Simpson, Jarvis Benson, Mason Blair, Matthew Murphy, Tristan Crockett, Joey Branson, and Taylor Vance.  Directors Jenni McCrory-Winter and Kim Porter will accompany the group along with numerous adult chaperones and other devotees.  Last year at this time, Visions performed on the Carnival cruise ship Elation.


                  Grenada School District students, faculty, and administration will be dismissed from classes Monday, November 21 – Friday, November 25, 2011, for Thanksgiving Holidays.  Classes will resume on November 28, 2011.  Grenada School District would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday.
