"School Days until Summer Break


Did you know there are only 23 school days left for Grenada School District students? Seniors have even less with 18 days left on the calendar! It's hard to imagine that the school year is rapidly approaching summer break. However, even though the remaining school days are few in number, they are jam-packed full of important occurrences.

Grenada High School's Visions Showchoir kicks off the event list this Thursday and Friday with their spring show. Show times are:
• Thursday, April 20, 2017 - 2:00p.m. matinee; 7:00 p.m.
• Friday April 21, 2017 - 7:00p.m.

The following week state testing commences and continues through the month of May. Testing schedules are listed below:
• April 25 – GUES 4th and 5th grade Reading
• April 26 – GUES 4th and 5th grade Writing; GHS English II part I
• April 27 – GMS English Language Assessment part I (grades 6-8); GHS English II part II.
• April 28 – GMS English Language Assessment part II (grades 6-8)
• May 1 – GUES 5th grade Science;
• May 2 – GUES 4th and 5th grade Math part I; GHS Algebra I; GMS 8th grade Science
• May 3 – GUES 4th and 5th grade Math part II
• May 4 – GHS U.S. History
• May 9 – GHS Biology I
• May 10 – GMS Math part I, grades 6-8
• May 11 – GMS Math part II, grades 6-8

The Superintendent's Breakfast for grades 4 – 12 takes place April 20 at 8:30a.m. in the GHS cafeteria. Students in grades 1 – 3 were honored at their own Superintendent's Breakfast in the GES cafeteria on this past Monday. Congratulations to all these students for their academic excellence all year!

Grenada High School pays tribute to its own students who have displayed academic prowess during the year at the GHS Academic Banquet on April 27 at 6:00p.m. Students earning the highest average in each class will take the stage to be recognized for their efforts. The Grenada School District encourages academic excellence at all levels and strives to honor those students who meet or exceed expectations.

Grenada Elementary School Kindergarten graduation plays are scheduled for May 3 – 5 in the GES cafeteria. Please check with your child's teacher for specific class dates and times. Also scheduled for May 4 are the GHS Art Show, held in the GHS Cafeteria from 3:30 – 5:30, and the Pops Concert in the GHS Auditorium at 7:00p.m. Friday, May 5, the GHS Band will host its Band Awards Dinner at Emmanuel Baptist Church in the Family Life Center. Dinner begins at 5:30p.m. and awards at 7:00p.m.

Athletes will receive their time in the sun on Monday, May 8 as GHS hosts its Athletic Awards and Reception in the GHS Auditorium and Cafeteria at 6:00p.m. Grenada Middle School honors its athletes on Monday, May 15 with an awards breakfast in the GMS Cafeteria.

GMS will make a day of awards on the 15th as it also honors its academically gifted students with awards ceremonies. Sixth grade awards begin at 9:00a.m., seventh grade at 10:30a.m., and eighth grade at 12:00p.m.

Rounding out the school year, graduation tops the list of important events at the Grenada School District. Graduating from high school is a major accomplishment. Walking the field of Charger Stadium in a cap and gown signifies the transition from child to young adult. Scheduled for May 19, graduation begins at 7:00p.m. at Charger Stadium.

Events listed here are only the tip of the iceberg of happenings in the Grenada School District. Each day, classes, groups, and teams meet, practice, and perform a myriad of events.
