New GSD Business Manager HiredRodney Murphy, the new Business Manager for the Grenada School District, is a self-proclaimed product of Mississippi. Murphy grew up in nearby Charleston and graduated from the East Tallahatchie School District in 1985. After furthering his education at Delta State University in Cleveland and graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1989, Murphy received his CPA designation in 1992
The weekend after graduating from college, Murphy married Grenada native, Lee Dogan. The couple will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in May, 2014. Approximately 23 years of their married life have been spent in the Grenada area. The family also boasts two children in the Grenada School District. Matthew is a junior and Sara is a seventh grader. Both are involved in the band where Matthew serves as a drum major and Sara plays the flute. Matthew also performs as a member of Visions show choir while Sara participates in the Junior High Choir program. The family attends Emmanuel Baptist Church where Murphy serves as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and chairman of the stewardship committee.
Prior to his employment with GSD, Murphy worked with the Department of Revenue where he performed tax audits on diverse businesses throughout the state. He then served as payroll supervisor, cost accountant, and general accounting manager of Grenada’s largest local manufacturer, Heatrcaft (currently Luvata). Murphy also owned and operated a construction related business for several years before going to work at the State Auditor’s Office where he performed audits of county governments.
Muphy stated, “I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the Grenada School District and will strive to meet the level of professionalism and expertise established for the position by long-time business manager, Bo Surrell. Safeguarding assets, ensuring compliance with applicable state laws, producing realistic and reliable budgets, and providing financial information to make educated financial decisions are all responsibilities of the business manager. I look forward to serving our community through this position. With all of us working together we can continue to enjoy a school system that is both financially sound and academically strong.”
The Grenada School District welcomes Rodney Murphy as the new business manager and looks forward to a long and successful relationship.
