National Honor Society 2017

The Grenada High School chapter of the National Honor Society recently held its induction ceremony for new members. Forty-eight Grenada High School juniors and seniors received the honor of induction into the National Honor Society. These students joined the prestigious group during a ceremony held in the GHS Auditorium. Attended by parents, friends, family, and Grenada School District personnel, the ceremony focused on the qualities required of NHS members.

Students granted membership in the society must meet or exceed the scholarship standard of a 92 cumulative GPA. However, this standard alone does not ensure entry into NHS; students must also demonstrate a high level of leadership, service, and character. Activities both in school and outside the school environment increase the likelihood of NHS acceptance. Students who are involved during their school years develop qualities and skills that serve them well during adulthood.

In addition to a student's personal credentials, they must also submit three recommendations from their high school teachers. These teachers rate the students based on academic and personal integrity, respect for others and for self, responsibility, motivation, self-confidence, caring for others, fairness, willingness to serve others, class participation, attitude, and attendance. NHS rewards students who strive for excellence in all areas.

Current NHS officers and members welcomed new affiliates into the fold during the ceremony as they spoke on the characteristics of scholarship, leadership, character, and service that define NHS members. Current officers of NHS are: President Anna Hayward, Vice President Bradford James, Secretary Lillie Turner, Treasurer Leonna Conley, and Recorder Anna Marie Gray. Sponsors for the National Honor Society at GHS are Mrs. Tracy B. Aldridge and Miss Laigan Conley.

Congratulations to this great group of new National Honor Society members!
